We are looking for a warm, creative and confident activities assistant to join our Activities and Enrichment team at The Maltings. This role includes delivering and evaluating meaningful, therapeutic activities for residents with complex nursing and advanced dementia needs.

Hours – 21 hours per week

Week A – Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

Week B – Monday, Saturday, Sunday

We are looking for a warm, creative and confident activities assistant to join our Activities and Enrichment team at The Maltings. This role includes delivering and evaluating meaningful, therapeutic activities for residents with complex nursing and advanced dementia needs.

The role focuses on enhancing cognitive function, emotional wellbeing, and quality of life through structured engagement, including Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) and performance-led interaction.

Performance & Creative Engagement

A love of performing is essential. We are looking for someone who feels comfortable sharing their energy with others – bringing music and light to a room in a calm and compassionate way.

  • Using theatre, music or performance skills to enhance engagement.
  • Leading interactive singing, storytelling, reminiscence and expressive sessions.
  • Confidently presenting in front of small and large groups.
  • Creating energy and atmosphere while maintaining emotional safety.

Dementia-informed Practice

We want someone who understands that behaviour is communication.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of dementia and how it affects behaviour and communication.
  • Recognise signs of distress and adapt your approach accordingly
  • Help create a calm, low-stimulation environment when needed.
  • Support person-centred communication at all times.

Team Collaboration

You will be part of a supportive activities and enrichment team.

  • Work closely with care, nursing and management teams
  • Share ideas and contribute to continuous enrichment improvement.
  • Be flexible and responsive to the changing needs of residents.

 

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Theatre, musical or performing arts background – or a genuine enjoyment of performing, singing or playing instruments.
  • Confident in engaging groups of residents.
  • Knowledge or experience of working with dementia
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • A warm, energetic and emotionally intelligent approach.
  • A willingness to learn and grow professionally.
